Board Membership

Newark and Sherwood Homes is an Arms Length Management Organisation which was set up in November 2004 to manage, maintain and improve Council housing on behalf of Newark and Sherwood District Council. In setting up Newark and Sherwood Homes, the Council was able to secure additional investment to meet the Government’s Decent Homes Standard.

This means that Newark and Sherwood Homes, (which is owned by the Council) carry out the main housing management functions such as letting homes, repairs and maintenance, rent collection and estate management whilst the landlord is still the Council. The Council  continue to provide services such as homelessness and housing advice, housing benefits, rubbish collection and street cleaning.

Newark and Sherwood Homes is a non-profit making company that is owned by Newark and Sherwood District Council and so it does not pay dividends to any shareholders. It provides the landlord housing service to tenants whilst properties remain in the ownership of the Council.

Responsibility for managing over 5,500 council homes in Newark and Sherwood transferred from Newark and Sherwood District Council to Newark and Sherwood Homes on 1st November 2004, along with over 160 staff from the Council's Housing Services Department.

The organisation is managed by a Board of twelve members, made up of:

  • Four tenants
  • Four Councillors from all political parties
  • Four independent people with professional skills to help run the service

the Board Members serve as volunteers and receive out of pocket expenses.
