Changes to your Tenancy

CHANGES TO YOUR TENANCY

Any requests for changes to your tenancy must be made in writing to the Tenancy & Estate Team.

SOLE TENANTS

If you are a sole tenant and are requesting a variation to a joint tenancy we need the following information about the person you are asking to be included in your tenancy.

  • Their full name
  • Date of birth
  • How long they have lived at the address with you
  • Where they lived prior to moving in
  • In the case of marriage we need a copy of your marriage certificate

Please note permission may not always be granted for a joint tenancy. Some of the reasons why permission may be withheld are:

  • If you, the tenant, are in breach of your tenancy agreement (e.g. there has been a notice served for rent arrears or anti social behaviour) or
  • The person you are asking to be made a joint tenant with you has lived at the address for less than a year (unless in the case of marriage) or
  • The person you are asking to be included on the tenancy owes the Council or Newark and Sherwood Homes money or has unspent criminal convictions.

JOINT TENANTS

If you are already a joint tenant and are requesting a variation to become a sole tenant we need the following information

  • The name of the person no longer living at the property with you
  • When they left the property
  • If they agree with a change to the tenancy
  • Their written agreement to any requested change

Both parties in a joint tenancy are equally liable for any rent due, even if one tenant no longer lives at the property.

Please note: If you are in breach of your tenancy agreement (e.g. there has been a notice served on you for rent arrears) permission may be withheld.

To report changes to your tenancy or for further information please contact the Tenancy & Estate Team on 0845 2585550 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
