We are deeply saddened to announce that tenant and Director of the Board Arthur Fell has passed away following a brief illness. Arthur made a fantastic contribution the success of Newark and Sherwood Homes and to the community in which he lived. He helped ensure tenants voices were heard and tenants received the best possible service. He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and condolences are extended to his family and friends at this difficult time.

Following the Grenfell Tower fire...

Our sympathies are extended to the families and loved ones of all involved in the tragic events in London.

Further to the Grenfell Tower fire, Newark and Sherwood District Council along with Newark and Sherwood Homes, the council’s housing company, have ensured that the council’s housing stock has had fire assessments for any of the known fire risks related to the property construction type.

We can confirm that regular fire risk assessments are carried out via a fire expert to assess and review fire risks for all of the council’s communal housing stock and community centres.  The most recent review was completed earlier this year and these fire risk assessments have not revealed any urgent concerns.  A specific financial provision for fire risk improvement works is routinely included in the annual housing capital programme and the findings from the fire risk assessments are addressed through this programme.

We can also confirm that we do not have the type of cladding on any of our properties similar to that used on the London tower block (block proprietary boarding). Where we have cladding on council properties, it is of a concrete rendered finish without air spaces between it and the structure of the building.  That said, the council and the company will continue to closely monitor the situation and any findings/concerns raised as a result of the London fire  will be properly taken into account and acted upon.

Our Tenants Annual Report 2015-16 shows how we are performing against the local service standards which were set with tenants and exceed the national standards set for housing service providers.

By working with tenants and other partners we improved the already high performing and low cost service we provide to you and this report provides detail on how we did this and how we will work with tenants to further improve this in the future.
